About Us

In the  1950's.   Known back then as the Pond Ridge Motor Court.
Rachel and Menton Thompson built several cabins perched high on the ridge over looking the Ottaquechee River.  In it's day a room would rent for $6.00 a night.  This was a success story of a small unique little home grown business that has survived well through several generations.

Purchased by Norman Boynton.  Norman was a native of the area.  As a young boy he grew up on a turkey farm in a modest small home.  He became a builder and built several homes in Woodstock.  It was Norman that had the idea to take the cabins and line them in a row.  He added newer rooms between the cottages and the property then became a motel.

In 1986 Christine and David Coates purchased the property.  In the mid 1960's Christine and David with their family of three children immagrated from England to Montreal Canada.  David worked for a computer company and Christine worked for rail company.  In 1980 Railtech branched south.  David and Christine were asked to run the new american branch.  Chrisine later worked as office manager for the Travelodge and David went on to form his own desk company.  Both businesses sold to new ownership.

It was then that Christine and David decided to buy their own motel.  Upon first seeing the Pond Ridge it was love at first sight.  Christine knew it was ment to be.  The property with it's six beautiful acres over looked some of the most spectacular views in woodstock.  Although the bones of the motel were in solid shape it was time to move the '70s decor out and bring in a fresh look.

The land was cleared and manicured.  The room decor updated with Thomasville furniture and more ammenities.  Christine and David built a reputation of pristine clean rooms and customer service that brought customers to come back year after year.

David the man with the british accent as customers still refer to him this day.  Loved to chat with guests.  This was the joy of the motel business.  Meeting people and listening to their life stories.

David and Christine are now semi retired and have passed the keys on to daughter Mandy and son in-law Doug.
